Has British TV lost the plot?
Nina Myskow began her career as editor of ‘Jackie’ and became the first female editor at publisher DC Thomson. She then began writing TV columns in The Sun and News Of The World (under the title ‘The Bitch On the Box’) and was also the Sunday People’s outspoken TV critic.
For three series of ‘New Faces’ in the 1980s Nina served as a no-nonsense judge and whilst arguably the show was a forerunner for the likes of X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent today, the judge’s job was to be critical but not to humiliate the aspiring guest live on air for the sake of making ‘good tv’ as seems to be the case these days.
Nina is a regular guest on panel shows such as Through The Keyhole, and is proud to be a ‘Grumpy Old Woman’ on BBC 2’s popular series. Nina has also hosted her own radio programmes on Talk Radio and LBC, whilst continuing to write for many national newspapers and
lending her forthright views to other numerous TV shows
including GMTV, This Morning and on national BBC Radio 2, Radio 4 and 5 Live.
Nina is keen to share her views with us on current TV programming and the glut of ‘reality’ shows that have dominated the airwaves in recent years. Needless to say, she won’t mince her words in what is set to be a very interesting lunch!
