Guy Hamilton is a true legend of British cinema.

Starting as an assistant director in French movies, he progressed to working in the UK – primarily at Shepperton Studios – for the great Sir Alexander Korda. There he was teamed with Carol Reed on films such as The Fallen Idol, Outcast Of The Islands and the definitive movie of its era The Third Man. He also worked as John Huston’s assistant director on The African Queen with stars Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn.

Guy eventually persuaded Korda to allow him to direct. The Ringer was the result – an accomplished thriller. An Inspector Calls, The Colditz Story and A Touch Of Larceny followed.  He then received the call to helm the third adventure in Eon’s James Bond film series – Goldfinger – arguable still the definitive and best of the franchise. Three other Bonds followed: Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun. Other credits in Guy’s impressive resume include Funeral In Berlin, Battle Of Britain, Force Ten From
Navarone
and two Agatha Christie epics
Evil Under The Sun
and The Mirror Crack’d.

We are delighted to welcome Guy for a rare visit to London, who will share some stories from his early years in the business and of course working with 007.

Guy’s lunch coincides with the publication of ‘The Shepperton Story – the history of the famous film studio’ and he will happily sign copies, along with its author.
