Huston we have a problem: 70 years in the film business
In our occasional series of “living legend” lunches, we are delighted to welcome famed cinematographer Ossie Morris who, in 70 years, has chalked up almost 100 film credits. Starting as a clapper boy, Ossie worked with distinguished directors (including Michael Powell) before progressing to assist and then operate the camera – most notably on Green For Danger, Blanche Fury and for David Lean on Oliver Twist.
Progressing to lighting cameraman or cinematographer as it became better known, Ossie worked on 8 films with John Huston including Moulin Rouge, Beat The Devil and Moby Dick. Ossie’s other credits include Our Man In Havana, The Guns Of Navarone, Lolita (with Stanley Kubrick), The Hill, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, Oliver!, Goodbye Mr Chips, Scrroge, Sleuth, the James Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun, The Odessa File, The Man Who Would Be King (again with Huston), Equus and The Great Muppet Caper. In 1971 Ossie lit Fiddler On The Roof which secured him an Oscar. With such an amazingly varied career Ossie really is a living legend. He’s also a terrific teller of anecdotes!
