How I made an Oscar Winning Movie – and Modern Day Miracles
Peter Fudakowski was born in London in 1954, and educated at Cambridge University where he graduated with a Degree in Economics, followed by a Masters Degree in Business Administration from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.
Peter's early career was in banking, but in the 90s he moved into financing feature films, which had always been his passion.
Associate and executive producer credits followed on Prowokator, Trial by Fire, The Last September, Helen West, Bugs! 3D, Piccadilly Jim, Country of My Skull, Keeping Mum and the Oscar winning Tsotsi.
Athol Fugard's novel Tsotsi was first published in 1980 and over the years has attracted the interest of various eminent film producers based in New York and Los Angeles. Several screenplays based on the novel had been written before producer Peter Fudakowski came across the story, and without optioning the rights, commissioned Gavin Hood to write a screenplay in the hope he could then secure the rights and finance. Not exactly conventional, but it paid off with a BAFTA nomination and an Oscar win!
