Earning a living as a
screenwriter
Olly Smith is a professional screenwriter who, over the last five
years, has been commissioned to write and develop sitcoms, sketch
shows, radio series, feature film and animation for production companies
and broadcasters such as MTV, Aardman, Lupus, HIT, Channel 4, BBC,
ITV and Disney.
He is one of the busiest and most in-demand writers
in the business today and is currently busy working on a couple of
children’s
tv projects with broadcasters, as well as developing an animation
project for a major UK tv company with Sir Roger Moore. In addition
to his writing, Olly was voted “Wine Idol 2005” - the
TV search for "the Jamie Oliver of wine”, and remains
busy presenting programmes on tv and radio. But that’s by
the by: he is one of the very few writers who actually makes a
living from writing and will share a few insights into the cut
a thrust world of the screenwriter.
